We need a why in our lives; we need a clear purpose that gets us out of bed in the morning, a reason to keep moving forward.
Trading is a solitary business; for the most part, it’s you vs. you. Motivation will wane, and doubt will re-enter your mind from time to time. Don’t expect a support system at home, because most people don’t know what the heck trading is, and if you open yourself up, most likely all you’ll get is a “good for you” or “isn’t that gambling?” You don’t need validation; you just need to work hard, then reflect on why you want to succeed, why you need to succeed.
My why is my daughter. I want to spend time with her and watch her grow up. My job takes me all over the world, but as romantic as that sounds, all I think about is how it takes me away from my kid. That is my why, and it keeps me focused and disciplined and on the right path. You need to find what truly matters to you. What is your why?
